Getting in the Groove!

Image
This week was full of new routines, changes, and relationship building. Students have been adjusting well and I am happy with how well they all did this week. We have been reading a lot of social stories to help the flow of the classroom. Some examples include social stories on: - A change in routine. - In the school bus. - Stopping at a stop sign. - Listening to the teacher. This week we also worked on our predictable writing. We started off by reading a book titled "My heart Fills with Happiness." Students enjoys story time. After we read our book, using a communication core board that I made, students went in circles by pointing out what fills their hearts with happiness. Some examples were: - Food fills my heart with happiness.  - Friends fills my heart with happiness.  - Teacher fills my heart with happiness.  On Monday, we will cut up our sentences into individual words, and glue them down in our sketch books. We will then colour our pictures that we said that fills our

Hello!  I hope everyone is having a fantastic week! Thank you for attending the open house! I hope the information that was provided was beneficial and created some comfort for the school year.  This week was a busy week for us, getting used to the routine, changes, and a new face in the classroom. We have been working on new literacy/ numeracy and life skills in the classroom. We have also started fine motor, where students are able to practice different skills such as transferring objects to the opposite hand, placing pegs on a peg board, placing clothespins on a line, and colouring within the boundaries. It has been a challenge, but we are always up for a good challenge!  This week, we have also worked on literacy skills. Since this is only the end of the second week. I am observing how students does does in this area.   HELLO! My name is Shenae Richards and I will be the new teacher in the EES program.  I recently completed by education degree and have always had a love for special education. I am very patient, outgoing, open-minded and determined to see my students' progresses throughout the school year.   The wonderful Miss. Heather will no longer be with us. We are sad to see her go, but a huge congratulations to her on her new journey. As I will be talking over Miss.Heather's classroom, I will like to share a bit about myself.  I have a background in teacher special education. I am a former employee as STA (Society for Treatment of Autism), I was also an employee at Centre for Autism, did many hours of respite care with children with special needs, and lastly completely my recent practicum in an EES program where I further received a contract to stay at that location for the remainder of the school year. I am grateful to be here and work alongside with my new set of students and to final

These first two weeks back at school have been busy and exciting! We have mostly been getting to know one another, as we have some new staff and students in our EES classrooms. We have also been focusing on learning the new classroom routines and expectations. Our students are learning about the daily schedule by sitting at their table groups to go over our large visual schedule, both first thing in the morning and after lunch. Throughout the day some students are asking questions about what is coming up next, so they are learning to reference the schedule during these times. Our days look mostly the same, as predictability and structure helps our students remain regulated, with some changes to the schedule if we have gym or music class. We have been impressed with how well the students have been doing when coming together as a whole group to do our calendar time! From day one the students have understood the expectations around sitting as a group in front of the Smartboard- WOW!  Beca
