May Is Half Complete!!

 Hello parents!

It has been a while since the last blog post. A lot has happened within the last few weeks but very few changes. Since the last post, we have welcomed a new friend in the classroom and we have been so excited to see a new face in the classroom environment! 

In Science, we have started to learn all about the butterfly life span. We are currently awaiting our caterpillars to arrive, but we have been introduces to learning what is a butterfly, what do they look like, and the lifespan from an egg to an adult.


Students' tasks were to cut and paste the butterfly life span in order from an egg to an adult. 





In math, we are practicing numbers to objects. Students have been using the online website called "Boom Cards" which is an interactive website that allows students to come up and practice their math/ LA etc goals as whole group, small group, and individual work times. 

Additionally, we have been going on community walks to practice our road safety on the streets. We have been talking about the use of stop signs, stop lights, always walking with an adult, looking from left to right before crossing the street and always staying on the sidewalk. We have been successful in using the "STOP" sign to visually communicate to students when they need to stop. 

May is going by so fast! We are all so excited to see what June brings to the table!!

Welcome back!

These first two weeks back at school have been busy and exciting! We have mostly been getting to know one another, as we have some new staff and students in our EES classrooms. We have also been focusing on learning the new classroom routines and expectations. Our students are learning about the daily schedule by sitting at their table groups to go over our large visual schedule, both first thing in the morning and after lunch. Throughout the day some students are asking questions about what is coming up next, so they are learning to reference the schedule during these times. Our days look mostly the same, as predictability and structure helps our students remain regulated, with some changes to the schedule if we have gym or music class. We have been impressed with how well the students have been doing when coming together as a whole group to do our calendar time! Short Week, Great Learning

This week, we have continued to learn about nutrition. We focused more this week on which is considered a treat, and what is considered a healthy food. Students did great organizing their plate as well as making healthy life choices. Additionally, we started to work on our nutritional flip books. This week, we have worked on the dairy, fruits and vegetable sections of our books. We proceeded by reading a book from "Epic Books" called "I can eat a rainbow" This week, we also worked on life skills for washing our hands the proper way. He worked on scrubbing both hands for 20 seconds before we proceed in rinsing under warm water. As a class, we will work more on this throughout the rest of the school year as we learn more about germs, and cleaning dirty areas before touching our faces, food, and others.  Here is a picture of washing hands that we have been working on for the past week.
